Lyon
After 12 painfully long hours on a bus, I made it to the great city of Lyon, France to visit my friend for the weekend. Lyon is filled with beauty, cheese, and french people. Luckily my friend spoke french, or else I would have been a wreck on my own attempting to order crapes and sandwiches.
One of my favorite part of my trip was seeing the Notre Dame de Fauruiére church, it was truly incredible. Not only was it massive, but the entire ceiling is made up of perfect mosaics. If you are a big church fan like I am, this is not one to be missed!
Another thing I loved was visiting Musee des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, an art museum featuring sculptures, ancient Egypt artifacts, and paintings. Be prepared for a long day here, because I am pretty sure this museum never actually ends. My favorite floor was the paintings and sculptures--level two--because I was amazed by the paintings not only for their talent, but their size. I had never seen such large pieces of art in my life!
I was lucky enough to have a Lyoness to show me around. I was able to see all the cool parts of town, including La maison du Crible(featured below). I was also able to taste my first authentic french crape, as well as some excellent late night european fast-food.
I have to say my favorite part of my visit was both times we bought bread, cheese, and fruit and just sat in the park people(and animal)watching. Also we saw a really amazing tree. I can't tell you how amazing this tree was.
One thing I definitely suggest while visiting Lyon
is to eat at "The Croc and Roll". Their sandwiches are incredible, I highly recommend the "Gossip"--their club sandwich--filled with brie, nuts, lettuce, and other godly ingredients.
You may leave Lyon having to go on a cheese sabbatical, like myself. Sorry cheese, I'll be back soon.
