München/Weilheim

When I was 16 I stayed with a family near Weilheim, Bavaria, so this past weekend I packed up my things to go see them again! Friday afternoon I met my old exchange partner in Munich, and we spent some time just wandering around Maria platz and other parts of Munich, including the river where people surf under the bridge! We took a train back to Weilheim and went out with her brothers to a sports bar they claimed to be "like Los Vegas"... a.k.a. there were darts and a billiards table, but fun none the less!
On Saturday we went to Chimsee and saw the castle, Herrchimsee(Featured below). Yet another castle for King Ludwig II... We took the ferry to the island allowing us to see a beautiful view of the alps. From the outside, the castle was massive. There were beautiful gardens, and two giant fountains. Surprisingly there was also a lining of flowers still alive around all the gardens. It was insane how decked out the inside of every room was. Even just the bedroom was bedazzled in gold and blue(because apparently blue was his favorite color). The amount of candles was insane! One room had so many, they said it would take them 30minutes to light them all(but I swear it would take 10 people to do it that quick). We also got to see a few museums there, one from Ludwigs life, and another of art, mostly from an insanely devoted artist, Julius Exter.
Sunday I got to do one of my favorite things of all, hiking! I got to go hiking in the Bavarian Alps on Mount Hörnle. It was really foggy on our hike up, but we continuously got lucky with our timing. Right as we reached the top we were able to see a great view of the mountain range and the towns below. I wish I could have spent more time in Weilheim, because even just staying with a german family for one weekend helped me improve my german so much faster!
I would say Herrchimsee, hiking the alps, and seeing Munich are all must-do's during your time here in Germany!
