Schloss Neuschwanstein
Another must-see while studying in southern Germany is Schloss Neuschwanstein, one of the most famous castles in the world.
This past weekend my friends and I rented a car and drove to the Austrian Alps. We went hiking, walked across the worlds longest "Fußganer Brücke"(pedestrian bridge), and accidentally saw a major snowboarding event/parade. We stayed in an overly luxurious apartment and ate way too many Corny granola bars(P.S. buy those in bulk, they have coupons for Flixbus).
The next morning we packed up our things and headed back to Germany to see Schloss Neuschwanstein. This was yet another castle owned by Ludwig, and definitely the most visited. There were so many tourists there, but it was still worth the visit, never the less.
The hike up was only about 20 minutes, and we checked out around the castle. We didn't buy tickets to go inside, but if it's your first time there, I would highly suggest it!(I was there four years ago during my last exchange).
Last time it was snowy, but this time it was very clear, meaning the bridge overlook was open! So we continued hiking for another 10-15 minutes to the overly crowded bridge, and waited our turn to cross it and take pictures. Once across we hiked up another small piece of the mountain and saw possibly the most amazing view of my life(pictured below). Unfortunately, it features the lake where Ludwig mysteriously died... but it is definitely a must-see.
WARNING: If you find yourself wanting souvenirs/postcards,
be patient! There are multiple places to buy them, if you go to the first one while hiking up, the post cards are more expensive than the ones closer to the top...I was a victim.
