A Weekend in Heidelberg

As much fun as it is to adventure to somewhere new every weekend, don't forget you're actually living in an amazing city. There are plenty of things to do with a weekend Heidelberg, but if you need some suggestions, read on:

While winter is approaching, the Heidelberg Weilnachtsmarkt(Christmas market)is already here in full force. There are endless little places to shop and get great holiday presents for the family back home. The food is also amazing, everything from bratwurst to bavarian nuts, chili, and don't forget the famous Glühwein. Every year the market has a new mug, you have to pay 2.5Euros pfand to use it, but it's worth taking one home for a souvenir.

There is also an iceskating rink located in one of the markets. It's not too expensive and its something fun to do with your friends at night or if someone comes to visit you.

One weekend a year the castle has it's own Christmas market and it is said to be the best of them, so make sure to find out when that is and to check it out!

There is also plenty of shopping on the Hauptstraße with lots of sales this time of year. I took advantage of that and got some sweet presents(and some for myself, too). There are endless people there now, which means lots of street performers, too. Some of them are actually pretty good, it's fun to find some good ones and listen for a while.

If I really have nothing else to do(like homework...)then I like to watch TV in german. It really helps you learn to speak like an actual german. Modern Family has really good voice overs, and I just watched the Grinch and that was actually really well done, too! They even redid the Grinch song in german and it worked out.

Even though it's getting cold out, it's still a nice time to do one of the hikes in Heidelberg. If you hike up Königstuhl, there is an amazing view over all of Heidelberg and you can see all the little Christmas markets and people skating. You can even get yourself a Glühwein up there.
